CAD Plans with Calculations – FEA Reports & Load Sheets

CAD plans with calculations behind them: projects that come not only with 3D models and 2D drawings, but with the engineering work that shows the design holds its rated load, from Nastran FEA stress reports to load calculation spreadsheets. For anyone who wants to know why a frame is sized the way it is before cutting steel.

Why Structural Design Verification Matters

A press frame, a scissor lift or a crane beam carries its full rated load every working cycle. Drawings tell you what to build; calculations tell you whether it will hold. The projects in this collection include that check: a stress and deflection check of the main structure under the rated load, so you can see where the design is working hardest and how much margin it has before you build or modify it.

FEA Stress Report: What You Get

Projects with a Nastran FEA analysis include the complete 3D assembly prepared for analysis, the solver files (geometry, mesh and results) and a stress and deformation review under the rated load. You can open the results, check the stress distribution in the frame and use the model as a reference for your own FEA if you change dimensions or materials. The first project with a full FEA package is the 50-ton hydraulic press.

Load Calculation Sheets for Lifting Equipment

Some projects come with a load calculation sheet instead of, or in addition to, an FEA model. The 1200 kg hydraulic scissor lift includes an XLS calculation spreadsheet for the scissor geometry and cylinder forces, so you can recalculate the lift for a different platform size, stroke or capacity.

Engineering Guides Behind the Calculations

The calculation methods used in these projects are explained step by step in the engineering guides: scissor lift force calculation, foldable workshop crane design calculations, welding positioner torque calculation and conveyor belt design calculation.

More Projects with Calculations

More projects are being prepared with FEA and calculation packages, with lifting equipment and cranes next in line. Calculations describe the original design under its stated assumptions; any equipment you build still has to be checked, tested and approved under the safety rules that apply where you use it.
